Fire Safety

During these months of summer we must always be prepared for fire.

This afternoon around 2pm a fire was reported about a mile and a half north of us. It went from 2 to 30 acres in 3 hours, fortunately it blew northward into open space and not down into the Lucas Valley neighborhood.

Our evacuation items are packed and in a big ugly pile, ready to grab this time of year: our file box, emergency kits for us and the animals, our thickest shoes and jackets.

Still, when the fire is that close, I can’t help but look around and think of all the memories attached to the stuff in our house. I’m sure this only gets worse the longer one lives in one place.

This week you better bet we will be rechecking the defensible space around our house!
